Greencore Sandwiches

Greencore Sandwiches is the world's largest sandwich manufacturer, producing nearly seven million sandwiches every week for supermarkets, convenience stores, garage forecourts, coffee shop chains, contract caterers and airlines. Greencore Sandwiches has three of the world's most advanced sandwich manufacturing facilities at Park Royal and Bow in London and Mantonwood in Nottinghamshire, where they manufacture to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Greencore Mantonwood found spreadsheets too cumbersome for their growing business and hired WorldCLASS to build an APS scheduling system. The 60 spreadsheets were across 2 databases and took 3 hours per day to up-date. The WorldCLASS APS system allows Greencore to make an immediate response to changes and frees up production control staff to "manage" the schedules - rather than to produce them! The system also provide management control over the accuracy of bookings, as the schedule is updated "real time" via bookings, hence displaying the schedules that remain to be produced. The system has been extended to display performance against schedule by sandwich making line on large shop floor displays, at this time making Mantonwood truly a "flagship site."


McDougalls Foods

Britain's leading maker of baking flour, McDougalls Foods had adopted just-on-time manufacturing as part of a company-wide improvement program. The new system heightened efficiency at the company's operations, reducing inventories and doubling stock turnover from six to 12 times. To support the new system, McDougalls Foods hired WorldCLASS to use ILOG optimization software to develop an APS solution for making real-time finite production plans and schedules based on customer demand, inventories and factory bottlenecks. The result: inventories substantially reduced with stock turnover dramatically climbed again, hitting 50+ times!
